Sheryl Sandberg stated that she will not seek re-election to Meta’s board of directors in May, concluding her 14½-year tenure with the social networking company. Sandberg, who stepped down as Meta’s chief operating officer in 2022, will continue to serve as an adviser and support Meta teams. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, acknowledged Sandberg’s instrumental role in the company’s success. She joined Facebook’s board in 2012 to address diversity issues. Zuckerberg hired Sandberg in 2008 as Facebook’s first COO, where she oversaw the company’s expansion into digital advertising. Despite her success, Sandberg also faced criticism for Facebook’s involvement in spreading misinformation and its data practices during turbulent periods.
