Anthropic, a prominent A.I. start-up, launched its latest Claude chatbot version on Monday, claiming superiority over competitors like Google and OpenAI on various benchmark tests.
According to Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder, the new Claude 3 Opus technology excels in analyzing scientific data and generating computer code.
Anthropic is a key player in generative A.I., which rapidly creates text, images, and sounds. Dr. Amodei and other founders previously worked at OpenAI, where they contributed to the development of generative A.I. with the ChatGPT chatbot launch in late 2022.
Chatbots like ChatGPT can perform various tasks such as answering questions, writing papers, and creating computer programs, although they may occasionally provide inaccurate information, similar to human behavior.
The recent release of GPT-4 by OpenAI and Google’s Gemini technology have been significant advancements in the chatbot landscape. Despite challenges like chip shortages and legal issues around data collection, A.I. technology continues to progress rapidly.
Anthropic asserts that Claude 3 Opus surpasses GPT-4 and Gemini in areas like math problem solving, coding, and general knowledge. Consumers can access Claude 3 Opus for $20 per month, while a free version, Claude 3 Sonnet, is also available.
Businesses can leverage the Opus and Sonnet technologies to develop their own chatbots and services.
Both versions of the technology can interpret images in addition to text, enabling tasks like analyzing flowcharts and solving math problems with diagrams and graphs.
However, the technology is unable to generate images. Google recently halted Gemini’s ability to create human faces due to a controversial incident involving images of people of color in German military attire from World War II.
